About Us

Who we are and what we do

The Madras Society for the Protection of Children was founded on the 24th of April 1908 by a band of selfless and generous hearted citizens with Sir Arthur Lawley the then Governor of Madras, as its first President with the object of rescuing destitute and orphan children and giving them shelter, food, clothing, education.

As the committee was trying to solve how to begin the work of such society without a premises of its own.Dr.V.Varadappa Naidu, a leading medical Practitioner and shortriemdar of Koyembedu offered in December 1908 a generous gift of a plot of land in Vepery, and donated Rs 30,000 for the construction of a building and the maintenance of an orphanage to be named "Dr V.Varadappa Naidu's Orphanage."

The Society was registered on 9-3-1909 as society under Act XXI of 1860. The Hon'ble Mr.Justice C.Sankaran Nair became the first Chairman of the Committee. The Governement recognised the Society's Home asJunior Certified School for boys in 1925 and for girls in 1926, under the Madras Children Act of 1920.

The present premises without subsequent additional constructions was acquired out of cash paid by the heirs of Dr.V.Varadappa Naidu in lieu of the land at Vepery gifted by Dr.V.Varadappa Naidu and Rs.30,000/- donated in cash by Dr.V.Varadappa Naidu in 1908.

The Society has now under its management Dr.V.Varadappa Naidu's Home for Children, Children Home for Boys and Girls, Lady Stokes Special Primary School, M.S.P.C. Senior Citizens' Home, M.S.P.C.
